Your guidelines and helpful facility information
For your comfort & convenience (A-Z):
No alcohol is to be brought into the Clinic or consumed at any time whilst you are a client of The Cairns Clinic. Non adherence to this policy may result in your immediate discharge.
Visitors may bring pets to the Clinic but only to the outdoor areas. All dogs, with the exception of sight-assisting dogs, must be muzzled whilst on the premises. Visitors must clean up after their pets.
You are encouraged to wear comfortable, casual clothes while in the Clinic and are requested not to wear night attire out of your Unit. It is important that foot wear is worn at all times whilst at the Clinic.
You are requested not to bring cameras into the Clinic because photographs within the Clinic may compromise other client’s confidentiality.
On admission, and during your stay, you are requested to present any electrical items to be checked by the Clinic’s Maintenance Officer to ensure they are safe. There maybe some delay before our Maintenance team can attend to your items.
If there is a fire alarm during your stay, the Unit staff will direct you to the fire stairs or exits either near the lift or at the southern end of the building. External Assembly Areas are located in the rear car park of the Clinic (McLeod St) or to the left of the Administration building (Thomas St). Your Unit staff will check your name off from the Unit list.
Ivy Floral Design is situated directly opposite the Clinic on Sheridan St. and offers a 10% discount to our clients.
Housekeeping staff will clean your suite daily. Clean bed linen will be supplied weekly or as required. Clients are encouraged to make their own bed each day and to keep their suite in an orderly state to reduce the possibility of injury to staff whilst attending to clients in their suite.
Fresh towels are available upon request.
As per the Clinic’s Infection Control policy, personal linen such as doonas, towels and pillows are not permitted.
Late Night Entry to the Clinic
The front doors to the Clinic are locked at 4:30 pm. If you are returning from day leave after this time please use the intercom buzzer located on the wall to the right of the front door and a staff member will attend and let you into the Clinic. Alternatively, you may enter via the rear car park off McLeod Street.
There is a client laundry located on the ground floor just outside on Unit 1 which contains a washing machine, clothes dryer and an ironing board. Please see clinical staff for an iron.
If you notice anything in the Clinic that is not working please bring it to the attention of a staff member so that it may be rectified without delay.
When you are admitted please ask our staff if mobiles can be used in your room. Mobiles may be used in all public areas including dining room. The Cairns Clinic does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to your mobile phone.
Motor Vehicle Policy
It is a Ramsay policy that you must NOT drive a motor vehicle whilst a client at the Clinic.
Should you arrive with a motor vehicle it is recommended that arrangements be made as soon as possible for the vehicle to be taken home.
The Clinic is secured at 10:30 pm and re-opened at 6:00 am. All emergency exits are alarmed.
For your own benefit, and in consideration for other client’s, you are required to retire to bed by 11:00 pm. Please speak to the Unit staff if you are unable to settle at this time.
Noise in Outdoor Areas
The Clinic is located in a residential area and the deck/garden areas face into neighbouring units.
Please be considerate when sitting outside in these areas, particularly in the evenings, and keep noise to a minimum.
Nurse Call Bell / Emergency Call Bell
Next to your bed, and in your ensuite, you will find the Nurse Call Bell. This will alert the nursing staff that you require their assistance. Also, you will find in your suite, and located throughout the Clinic, the emergency call bell buttons. These are to be used ONLY in case of emergency.
Please see the nursring staff if you are unsure as to how to use the call bell/emergency alarm systems.
Photocopying, Faxing and Emailing
Administration staff are able to assist with photocopying, faxing and/or emailing documents. You may be asked to leave the documents to collect later. The nurse stations and the Administration area behind the main Reception are staff only areas.
In order to provide a safe environment for all clients, staff and visitors, objects containing glass i.e: picture frames and glass/ceramic ornaments are not permitted. Please ask the clinical staff if you are in doubt.
All internal areas of the Clinic are non-smoking as per government policy.
Please note that smoking inside of the clinic will trigger the fire alarms and thus necessitate an evacuation of the entire Clinic. Also, any client who has activated the fire alarm due to smoking indoors may be charge the call out fee from the Fire Dept.

You are able make local calls from the telephone in your room as well as receive all outside calls.
If you do not wish to receive any calls, please inform the Unit staff.
The clinical staff conducts weekly meetings to discuss any matters pertaining to the Unit or the Clinic. This meeting is usually advertised on the weekly Group time table and all clients are encouraged to attend.

In consideration of others we ask you to ensure that your visitors keep noise to a minimum.
If a visitor arrives unannounced and you do not wish to see them please inform the clinical staff.
You are advised to leave valuables at home as the Clinic cannot take any responsibility for these items.
Please keep cash to a minimum as the Clinic is a cashless facility it does not have a main safe.
